City Art Centre

Background

In February 1992, a small group of people with experience in Mental Health Services at the time, and identifying with the emerging Consumer/Survivor movement, shared the need for a safe place to express themselves through art media. They created City Art Centre to provide a safe place, free art supplies, peer support, and encouragement for those 18 years and older who self-identify as living with mental health challenges. Over the years members have developed a wide range of styles, forms, and techniques to support individual creative processes. Quality of life is greatly enhanced as feelings are expressed through art and healing can follow. Membership criterion has also shifted, since those beginnings, to include anyone over the age of 18 who self-identifies as living with mental health challenges for themselves, or close friends or family.

Our Current Location - 102 King Street, Lower Level. Also houses Pillar Nonprofit Network.
